We took the day off yesterday and implemented a few strategies to get Lex back on track. He's really into superheroes lately, so I made a chart for "SuperLex" for him to get a sticker when he does something heroic. Naturally, he decided it should go inside the closet since superheroes have a secret cave they go to:)
Tuesday at preschool, he showed me a toy that another boy had dropped in class. When he was very upset about having to return it, I tried to explain that is what a superhero would do. While I'd like to think his altruistic side would come back, the "what if it were you" scenario didn't have an impact; he was, however, interested in hearing more about how heroes sometimes get "rewards."
I also made a conscious effort to put on the praise yesterday for anything good he was doing and it seemed to help already. We also talked about the night-time routine and he wrote a list of the things we do before we go to bed. Since daddy was outside on the phone, he went through the list all on his own and I gave him a flashlight to read with at night because he did such a good job.
I know it's only been a day, but I hope we're on the right track again.
