Lex: Mom, What holiday comes next?
M: New Years.
Lex: Do we get presents?
M: No. We reflect on the last year and think about what resolutions we want to make the next year even better.
Lex: What's a resolution?
M: It's a goal - do you want to make a goal for next year? What's something you want to do next year?
Lex: Paint.
M: That is fun, but what's something you can do to become a better person or make the world better?
Lex: Make money.
M: That is a good goal; let's think about what you can do to earn money.
. . .
Lex put his own shoes away because he should, but earned one quarter for putting all of mommy's and daddy's shoes away, and another quarter for sweeping the mudroom floor.
The next morning, he gave me a big hug and kiss and told me I was beautiful. I said, "Thanks," and he asked, "Did I just earn two more quarters?"
